Smartson leads BTD Group, providing strategic, operational, and organizational leadership. He ensures that all initiatives align with national and global development agendas, including Uganda’s NDP IV, the 10-Fold Growth Strategy, EAC Vision 2050, Africa’s Agenda 2063, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

He is a passionate patriot and Pan-Africanist, with a firm belief that no community or nation can achieve meaningful and sustainable development without the active participation of its citizens. Smartson believes that when citizens are empowered and mobilized to contribute to their community or country’s growth, their collective efforts can achieve remarkable and transformative results

He has founded and led various initiatives such as Buhweju Youth Development Association (BYDA), BYDA Investment Club, G20, and Legacy Investment Group. He currently serves as Consortium Lead of Blueprint Consortium Africa, a leading hub for applied research, data analytics, and tech-driven insights. Smartson has previously worked with the Economic Policy Research Centre, Makerere University School of Public Health, Kyambogo University, RTI International (Uganda), and Bank of Africa Uganda Ltd in different capacities.

He holds dual Master’s degrees in International Relations (The University of Manchester, United Kingdom) and Biostatistics (Makerere University), a postgraduate diploma in Project Planning and Management (UMI), and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Statistics (Kyambogo University).
